Grand Opening of the Gold Butte Information Center (August 30th at 5:00-7:00 PM)

The Friends of Gold Butte  partnered with the Virgin Valley Fine Arts Gallery and the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce to create a Gold Butte information center in the lobby of the Chamber office. Gallery volunteers decorated the room and are showcasing local artists and the Friends provided information on recreation opportunities in the Gold Butte area.

Please join us for the grand opening of the Gold Butte information center on Tuesday, August 30th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce (12 W. Mesquite Blvd. #107).

Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Luncheon (September 14th from 11:15-1:00 PM)

Chris Mehl, Policy Director of Headwater Economics, will present the results of their research on the economic impacts of nationally designated public lands to adjacent communities at the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce September 14th luncheon.

The luncheon will be held at the Eureka Casino (275 Mesa Blvd.) and will cost $15 in advance and $20 after September 12th. For more information call the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce at 702-346-2902 or Friends of Gold Butte at 702-277-3337. Purchase tickets online.

Friends of Gold Butte Talk Business (September 14th from 6:30-8:30 PM)

On Wednesday, September 14th Chris Mehl will be the guest speaker at the Friends of Gold Butte meeting. Chris will be joined by local and regional business owners to discuss how adjacent public lands can give local businesses and Mesquite a competitive advantage compared to other western communities.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at the Mesquite Community Theatre (150 N. Yucca St.). The general public is always welcome, so bring your neighbors and friends.

Nellis Dunes – Today and Tomorrow (September 21st from 6:30-8:30 PM)

Nellis Dunes is one of Southern Nevada’s busiest off road areas with an estimated 300,000 riders enjoying the area annually. On Wednesday September 21st Mike Popp, staff member from the Clark County Comprehensive Planning Department, will present Nellis Dunes – Today and Tomorrow. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at the Mesquite Community Theatre (150 N. Yucca St.)

Cabin Canyon Hike (September 9th 8:00 AM)

Yes, there are mountains in Gold Butte! Heading due south out of Mesquite takes us to the Virgin Mountains and the mouth of Cabin Canyon. How far we go will depend on the weather and the participants. Meet up at the Walmart Supercenter 1120 West Pioneer Boulevard.

Little Virgin Peak Hike (September 15th 8AM)

This small peak, about half way to Whitney Pockets, only has about 1000′ of elevation gain, but that’s in just over a mile of hiking. Meet up at the Walmart Supercenter 1120 West Pioneer Boulevard.

Billy Goat Peak Hike (September 19th 8AM)

Let’s kick the hiking season into high gear with a climb to Billy Goat Peak. To the top is a strenuous hike and requires some bushwacking and rock scrambling. Meet up at the Walmart Supercenter 1120 West Pioneer Boulevard

LUSH Cosmetics and Friends of Nevada Wilderness: working together for Gold Butte

Friends of Nevada Wilderness has teamed up with the very generous folks at LUSH Cosmetics to work for the protection of Nevada’s piece of the Grand Canyon: Gold Butte.
